How to Prepare for Your Tarot Reading (Without Stressing Out!)

Samara, receiving a reading ✨

So, you’ve booked a tarot reading (or you’re thinking about it) but suddenly you’re feeling a little… nervous!

Let me start by saying: experiencing some anxiety before your first tarot session is completely normal. I always say that it would be more strange to not feel at least a little jittery — because after all, we’re exploring the mysteries, and depths of your spirit and psyche! No big deal, right? Haaaa!

Approaching with a modicum of anticipation and reverence definitely goes with the territory, but I always offer space to ask questions and offer anything that might help folks coming to work with me for the first time feel more at ease.

Whether it’s your first time having a reading or your first time working with me, a little flurry of nerves can totally be part of the process.

Sometimes clients feel unsure about what to ask, or worry about what the cards might say. Others wonder if they’re going to cry (it happens more often than you might imagine!) or if they need to have some grand plan or agenda mapped out to “do it right.”

Let me put your mind at ease.

You don’t need to come prepared with the perfect question. You don’t need to know anything about tarot. You don’t even need to believe in anything in particular. You just need to show up — in your authenticity, an open heart, and a little willingness to do the work with me.

What to expect — and why it doesn’t have to be scary!

My tarot sessions are more than just card readings. They’re a form of spiritual support — blending intuitive insight, energetic attunement, and sacred listening. I’m here to help you uncover clarity, reconnect with your own knowing, and find your footing for whatever crossroads you’re facing.

It’s not about predicting a fixed future, or pulling scary cards that spell portents of doom. In fact, one of my favorite things to remind people is:

The most accurate way to predict the future… is to create it.

Together, we work to support you in creating your own path forward. And sometimes that means big questions, strong emotions, or moments of catharsis. Sometimes it means laughter. Sometimes just a deep, steadying breath — knowing that I’m here, walking by your side.

You’re safe in this work. Whatever you’re carrying, you don’t have to hold it alone.

Creating the Right Container for Your Reading

So — you don’t need to don velvet wizard robes or light dozens candles (unless that’s your thing, in which case PLEASE go for it!) However… the space around your session really matters. The more present and still you are, the more I can tune in to your energy and support you with precision.

Here are a few ways you can support your experience:

  • Choose a quiet, private place where you won’t be interrupted.

  • Use headphones instead of speakerphone if we’re on a call — this helps immensely with sound quality and energetic focus.

  • Try not to multitask. Note-taking or gentle doodling is totally fine, but answering emails or driving? Not so much. I can hear when folks are puttering, and the noise can be extremely distracting, as is knowing they’re choosing not to give the session their full focus!

  • Give yourself a buffer of time before and after our session. Integration is part of the magic — I promise!

Give yourself room to land. Insight needs space to settle.

If you’ve booked a phone session, I’ll call you at our scheduled time. (If I’m running a few minutes behind, I’ll send a quick text.) If you’d prefer Zoom — especially if you’d like a recording of your reading — just let me know with at least 24 hours’ notice and we can upgrade you (please note, there’s a small fee increase for Zoom sessions).

A Note on Energetic Readiness

To get the most from our time together, I ask that you arrive clear-headed — and not under the influence of anything that might cloud your experience. This work is subtle and sacred, and it deserves your full presence. Trust that I’ll bring mine, too.

Also: your reading is completely confidential. What happens in our session stays between us.

This is sacred space. Come as you are, and come away feeling more whole.

& If You’ve Been Hesitating…

Every now and then, I hear from someone who says they’ve been meaning to book for months — or even that they received a gift certificate and were too nervous to redeem it.

I get it. That vulnerability is so real, and these experiences can be intense!

But I want you to know:
You won’t be judged. You won’t be tested. You won’t be told who you should be.

You’ll be met exactly where you are: with compassion, intuition, and a deep respect for your own inner knowing.

If you’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to book… this is your sign!
